Context in Al-Mulk (Ayah 5)

Attention shifts to the nearest heaven adorned with masabih—lamps, understood in tafsir as stars—while some meteors are made rujuman lil-shayatin, thrown at eavesdropping devils. Classical works connect this to reports about jinn seeking news from the sky and being driven off by flaming traces.

The verse balances beauty with warning: zayyanna signals aesthetic mercy for human wonder, while a'tadna lahum 'adhab al-sa'ir reminds that prepared Blaze awaits devils and those who follow their incitement.

Meccan audiences familiar with star worship hear that luminaries serve Allah's command, not independent divinity. The sky is simultaneously decoration, defense, and signpost toward accountability.

Concerning Allah's statement, وَأَعْتَدْنَا لَهُمْ عَذَابَ السَّعِيرِ (and We have prepared for them the torment of the blazing Fire.) means, `We have made this disgrace for the devils in this life and We have prepared for them the torment of the blazing Fire in the Hereafter.' This is as Allah said in the beginning of Surat As-Saffat,

Reflection on Creation

Meteor showers have well-studied physical causes; the Quran layers spiritual meaning atop observable phenomena without requiring rejection of astronomy. Beauty and threat coexist in the same sky—a pattern mirrored in human choice. Study ayah 5 with the Arabic on this page and Saheeh International English: “And We have certainly beautified the nearest heaven with stars and have made [from] them what is thrown at the devils and have prepared for them the punishment of the Blaze.”. In chapter 67’s sequence, this line advances the theme of stars as adornment, missiles against devils, and Hell prepared. Read ayah 4 and ayah 6 on their verse pages so you see how the argument builds—Meccan proofs about creation, accountability, and mercy are layered, not repeated as generic slogans.
